For 25 years, Insomniac Games, the company he founded and where he still serves as CEO and president, has consistently been creating hit titles that have burrowed into the hearts and minds of players. Huey will embark on an entrepreneurial path to become the president of a new government relations and public affairs consultancy in Washington, DC, that he is co-founding with an established California-based firm. The ESA will be among the firm’s growing client roster. “Erik has worked tirelessly to elevate the video game industry and the ESA in Washington and in state capitals around the country,” said Stan Pierre-Louis, the ESA’s general counsel and acting president and CEO. “Much of the organization’s success over the past decade can be traced to campaigns and initiatives that Erik created and led.”

With an expanded emphasis on featuring never-before-seen content and providing immersive new experiences for attendees, E3 2019 will be unlike any prior E3. In addition, this year’s E3 will include an expanded presence for burgeoning video game sectors, including esports and the independent video game development community.

As a supporter of the decade-old consensus open Internet principles and policies that advance broadband deployment, ESA believes the Commission can, and should, maintain enforceable open Internet protections, consistent with the Commission’s authority, in a form that does not “deter the investment and innovation that has allowed the Internet to flourish.”

The brief emphasizes that the FCC had no rational basis for repealing net neutrality protections in 2017, relied on dubious evidence, and ignored research contradicting its preferred outcome. “Gamers deserve a well-functioning internet without blocking or throttling interfering with their experience,” said Stanley Pierre-Louis, interim CEO of the Entertainment Software Association, which represents the US video game industry. “The FCC’s 2017 net neutrality order was unwise, unwarranted, and unlawful. We are optimistic that the DC Circuit Court of Appeals will side with the American public, who made clear that they prefer an open and unrestricted internet.”

As one of the most dynamic sectors of the tech industry, video game companies prioritize fostering greater workforce diversity. ESA members are leaders in adopting and enforcing anti-discrimination and harassment policies in the workplace. In addition, the ESA Foundation, our industry's philanthropic arm, has awarded more than $700,000 in scholarships to women and minorities since 2007.

Courts, including the US Supreme Court, have ruled 13 times that computer and video games are protected speech. Efforts by these legislative bodies to ban or limit access to or the sale of games they find objectionable will inevitably run afoul of the First Amendment of the US Constitution.
