The Entertainment Software Association issued the following statement on New York State’s proposed 2022 Empire State Digital Gaming Media Production Credit:
“The Entertainment Software Association supports and encourages the New York State Legislature to enact the Empire State Digital Gaming Media Production Credit proposed in the Senate and Assembly budget bills. New York is home to more than 141 video game companies, 29 college programs and eight varsity Esports teams and through this incentive would have the opportunity to maximize the potential to grow the New York video game development ecosystem.
“The Senate and Assembly budget bills will provide meaningful and effective incentives to the video game industry in New York that can spur critical economic development throughout the state. Strong incentives would allow the video game industry to expand its workforce across the state and provide a path to family-sustaining incomes to the graduates of New York collegiate game design programs, which are some of the best in the country.
“The increasingly diverse community of innovators, creators, publishers and business leaders inside the video game industry are transforming how we interact, learn, connect and play. Support for the Senate and Assembly budget bills will help foster the development of a diverse, well-paid workforce and will establish robust communities of thought leaders around the state who can use this innovative industry’s impact to power innovation and economic competitiveness in New York.”
