On January 31, 2022, the International Intellectual Property Alliance (IIPA) filed its annual Special 301 Report submission with the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR). As a member of IIPA, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) contributed information on over 20 countries to highlight intellectual property protection and enforcement issues paramount to the video game industry and made suggestions on steps these countries should take to improve their practices to increase global trade.
The annual Special 301 review process examines the adequacy and effectiveness of international protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights. Released in April, the USTR report identifies countries that do not provide sufficient intellectual property protections or provide fair and equitable market access to U.S. persons who depend on intellectual property rights.
